Press Release (March)

Glossop North End AFC have announced the establishment of a project team to develop their Surrey Street Ground. The formal statement is reproduced below:-

Following a meeting between the GNE Board of Directors and the Supporters Club, a team has been formed to drive the development of the clubs Surrey Street facilities.

The team's objective is to provide Surrey Street with safe, accessible facilities that meet the Football Associations National Grade D standards (Step 4).

The team is responsible for all aspects of the development - from design and planning through to funding and implementation.

The development has a completion due date of 31st March 2011.
This represents both a challenge and an opportunity for the football club. The challenge, as outlined above, is to complete what is a large Project within a fixed timescale. Significant funding will be required and the Surrey Street Development Fund has been established to act as the vehicle for this. The first contribution to this development fund is £30,000 which has come from the existing resources of the football club. Grants are being applied for and other fundraising activities will be announced shortly.

The opportunity relates to the potential of the 2009 FA Vase finalists to move up the football pyramid. With a good young team capable of challenging for honours at the existing level, the successful completion of this project will allow for the team to progress should the results on the field warrant that.

Further details of the progress of the Project will be issued as the development unfolds.

Glossop North End Chairman and Development Team member Dave Atkinson commented "this initiative represents an opportunity for the local business community and all interested individuals to get involved and show their support for our local football team".

Details of how businesses and individuals can contribute will be made available shortly.
